What to Expect

At Lucca Oral and Facial Surgery we believe that each of your needs are unique and that your care be should be customized accordingly. Your first visit will be a consultation with an examination and review of your intended treatment so that your surgical plan can be thoroughly evaluated and the most appropriate treatment options can be discussed and determined with Dr. Lucca. Treatment options will be reviewed and information about the benefits, risks and alternatives will be made available to you.

For most oral surgery procedures, we will use digital radiography with a panoramic “x-ray” and/or a 3-D digital cone beam CT scan to obtain up-to-date imaging to review with you during the consultation. Panoramic radiography is the minimum standard of care for all wisdom tooth procedures and some implant procedures (and is different than x-rays you may have had at your dentist’s office). However, If you have a recent and good quality panoramic radiograph from your referring doctor, please let us know so we may obtain it on your behalf.

Please note that we will require a clear quality diagnostic and recent digital image to review. We can not accept printed copies – they are not diagnostically reliable and will not be accepted by your insurance carrier when we file your claim.

Occasionally, we are able to perform minor surgery at your first visit under special circumstances. However, depending on the specifics of your medical history and depending on the type of surgery planned, a separate dedicated evaluation is often indicated. For any procedure that will involve using general anesthesia and IV sedation, it is mandatory that a preoperative consult and physical exam be completed prior to treatment – which will be performed during a second appointment on another day.

Please be sure to let us know if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to surgery (i.e. high blood pressure, diabetes, artificial heart valves and/or joints, rheumatic fever, et al), or if you are currently taking any medication (i.e., heart medications, aspirin, and especially anticoagulant therapy “Blood thinners”) that may impact your care.
