Do We Take Your Dental Insurance
With any type of procedure, it is important to consider the costs of care. If your dental benefit plan offers coverage, insurance benefits can provide supplemental funds to reduce the out of pocket cost of oral surgery. However, it is important to remember that dental insurance was never designed to cover the total cost of care.
If you’re wondering whether or not Lucca Oral and Facial Surgery will accept your dental insurance for the procedure you need, we can accept and help utilize most all insurance plans other than medicaid and medicare. Here’s what you need to know about our policies.
We Are a Non-Contracted Provider
The question to if "we accept insurance" or "take your insurance" should actually be reconsidered as to if you can utilize your insurance benefits at our office. The answer to this question is yes! As a non-contracted provider, Lucca Oral and Facial Surgery is out-of-network with most all insurance types. But this simply means that we do not negotiate the cost of any of our services with specific insurance companies and we are not bound to contracts with third party companies that can influence and dictate care.
However, we are credentialed and able to assist with submitting claims on your behalf for most all major insurance plans. Services are paid in full to Lucca Oral and Facial Surgery before or at the time of the appointment and a claim is then immediately submitted to your insurance company on your behalf. Your insurance provider will then reimburse you directly for whatever portion of the cost of those services they have agreed to cover according to your plan. The transaction is frictionless and up front and as a result, you will never receive a surprise bill from our office generated after the fact due to third party claim processing errors.
Benefits of Choosing an Out-of-Network Provider
Why choose a provider that is out-of-network with your insurance? There are some benefits to this option.
- More choices. When you are not limited to in-network providers you have a lot more options. You can choose an oral surgeon based on your own top criteria.
- Quality service. No two doctors are the same. You have the option to choose a provider that offers the highest quality service rather than settling for a provider only on the basis of being in-network with your insurance.
- Faster Care. In many instances out of network doctors are lower volume operations that can afford the time to better accommodate your schedule.
- Still use your benefits. You can still get plenty of use out of your benefits when you go to an out-of-network provider who works with your insurance.
- No Surprise Billing. With in-network models that rely on often inaccurate estimates and co-pays, billing by an office after the fact to reclaim what insurance failed to cover sometimes happens. This makes budgeting very difficult. Our out of network model is transparent and predictable and there is never surprise billing
- Continuity of Care. Your dentist may refer you to a specific oral surgeon they prefer to work with. Going to an oral surgeon that is out-of-network could mean better continuity of care and better communication maintained between your doctors.
- Convenience. Sometimes the closest in-network provider is not in your area or does not have available appointments. They could be in a nearby town or city that will be inconvenient for you to drive to, or may be an office that can not see you for months. Choosing a location that is convenient or a doctor that can see you sooner may be worth it, even if they are out-of-network.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Insurance
Is it wasting your benefits to go to an out-of-network provider?
Although we are non-contracted, we still accept and take your dental insurance. You will still be able to use the insurance benefits your plan provides you toward our services as long as the service you are receiving is covered by your plan (with some oral surgery procedures considered non-covered services by many insurance plans, the doctor’s network status becomes irrelevant for these services because no coverage exists). It is important to note that we successfully process insurance claims for close to a thousand patients each year helping them to maximize the benefits available in their plan.
How can I afford the out of pocket cost of oral surgery?
We accept payments in the form of cash, check, debit card, credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or America Express), and CareCredit. CareCredit is specifically designed to cover healthcare related costs and offers promotional periods with 0% interest. Additionally all oral surgery services are HSA and FSA eligible.
